Aye Mya Thidar is a 24-year-old Myanmar helper who is married and has one 4-year-old child. She has four siblings and is the second child in her family. Through raising her own child, she has gained hands-on experience in understanding children’s daily routines and needs.
She previously worked for a family in Myanmar for 2 years consisting of the employer, employer’s husband, a 78-year-old grandmother who was a stroke patient, an 81-year-old grandfather, two children aged 4 and 6 years old and one small dog. She mentioned that her main responsibility was taking care of the grandmother, along with assisting the children and managing household duties such as cleaning and cooking.
She shared that the grandmother was a stroke patient and unable to walk independently. She was responsible for the grandmother’s daily care including feeding, assisting with daily needs and providing full support according to the grandmother’s condition. She also helped to take care of the children by sending and picking them up from school, attending to their needs and providing daily care.
She shared that as a mother, she is comfortable taking care of children and is able to care for children from around 3 months old onwards. She mentioned that she can handle children’s daily routines including feeding, bathing, changing diapers and providing care according to their needs. She is also able to take care of elderly grandmothers and grandfathers, including bathing and assisting with daily routines. She is comfortable sleeping together with both elderly and children if required.
She is able to cook Myanmar dishes and simple Chinese dishes. She can follow recipes and is willing to learn more cooking styles according to the employer’s preference. She can manage general household duties including cleaning, laundry, ironing and maintaining household cleanliness.
She shared that she loves dogs and cats. She has experience taking care of a small dog, including feeding and bathing it. She is also comfortable taking care of cats and working in households with pets.
Through the interaction at the training centre, she appears to be a patient and open-minded person. She is willing to cooperate, learn and adapt to the employer’s requirements.
Families looking for a helper with both elderly care and childcare experience may consider her based on her caregiving skills and mothering experience. She is able to assist with elderly care but prefers childcare as she is more confident and interested in taking care of children.
